Earn money testing Android apps: an honest guide

Updated November 2026

Developers with new Google Play accounts need real people to test their apps for 14 days before they can publish. You can be one of those people from your Android phone's browser at https://testerexchange.com/earn, with no extra app to install. You get paid a small amount for each test you finish. Let's be clear up front: this is pocket money, not an income. This guide explains how it works, what you have to do, and how much you can realistically expect.

Why developers need testers

Google requires personal developer accounts created after 13 November 2023 to run a closed test with at least 12 testers who stay opted in for 14 days in a row before the app can go public. Many solo developers don't know 12 Android users who will do that, so they look for testers.

Google also checks whether testers actually used the app. That's why the work is simple but needs to be real: open the app and use it, every day, on your own phone.

What you earn

  • US$0.50 for each finished 14-day test on an app marked 💵. These are paying customers' apps that still need testers. Other apps earn credits, which get testers for your own app.
  • Cash out from US$3. That's six finished tests.
  • Payout methods: PayPal, Binance Pay or Payoneer.

You can be in several tests at the same time, because each one only takes a minute or two a day. How many cash apps you get depends on how many paying customers need testers that week. If five of your tests pay cash, you might earn US$2.50 in about two weeks. Treat it as a small bonus for a few minutes a day, not a job.

How it works, step by step

  1. On your Android phone, open https://testerexchange.com/earn in your browser and sign in.
  2. Your list of apps fills itself. Tap the green button: the first time, it asks you to join the testers group (once), then to become a tester on Google Play.
  3. Install the app from Google Play through the test link.
  4. Open the app and actually use it for a minute or two every day for 14 days. Try the main features, and send feedback if something breaks or confuses you.
  5. Stay in the test for all 14 days. Don't leave the test or uninstall the app early.
  6. When a test on a 💵 app is finished, US$0.50 is added to your balance. Cash out once you reach US$3.

The rules

  • Real phone only. Use your own Android phone. Emulators, cloud phones and device farms are not allowed.
  • One account per person. Don't create extra accounts or use family members' accounts to collect more tests.
  • Use the app for real. Opening and closing it instantly doesn't help the developer and isn't real testing.
  • Finish what you start. Leaving early can hurt the developer, because Google counts testers who stay opted in for 14 continuous days.
  • Don't leave public reviews for test versions. Google doesn't allow public reviews of test builds anyway; send feedback to the developer instead.

Accounts that break these rules may be removed from testing. The rules exist because developers are relying on you to be a real tester.

How to be a good tester

  • Set a daily reminder at the same time, for example with your morning coffee.
  • Spend a minute on a different screen each day, not just the opening screen.
  • Write short, specific feedback: what you did, what you expected, what happened.
  • Keep the apps until the 14 days are over, even if you don't love them.

Is it safe?

You install apps from Google Play, not from random files, so they go through Google's normal protections. You don't need to install any Tester Exchange app; everything runs in your browser. Still, use common sense: don't give a test app permissions it obviously doesn't need, and don't enter real payment details or sensitive personal information into an app you're testing.

Who this is for

It suits people who already spend time on their phone and like trying new apps, students who want a little extra, and developers who want testers for their own app. Developers can test other apps free in exchange for testers on theirs, which is often worth more than the cash.

If you need real income, this isn't it. The pay is small and depends on how many tests are open. But it's honest, flexible and takes very little time.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I earn testing apps?

US$0.50 for each finished 14-day test on an app marked 💵, and credits on the others. Running several tests at once, most people earn a few dollars a month.

What is the minimum payout?

US$3, paid to PayPal, Binance Pay or Payoneer.

Do I need to install a Tester Exchange app?

No. You use https://testerexchange.com/earn in your Android phone's browser. You only install the apps you test, from Google Play.

Can I use an iPhone?

No. These are Google Play closed tests, so you need an Android phone with a Google Account.

Can I have two accounts?

No. One account per person, on a real phone.

What if I stop before day 14?

The test isn't finished, so it doesn't pay. It also hurts the developer, so only join tests you plan to finish.
