The best way to get 12 testers for Google Play closed testing
Updated November 2026
Short answer: if you have time and no budget, join a free tester exchange and test other developers' apps. If you want it done and don't want to spend a few hours a week testing, pay a service that shows daily proof of use. Fiverr gigs are the cheapest to start but the hardest to check. Google requires 12 testers opted in continuously for 14 days for personal developer accounts created after 13 November 2023; it does not say where the testers must come from. This page compares the four common routes. Details on competitors come from their own public pages in November 2026 and can change.
Quick comparison
Costs are one-time per app unless noted.
- Free exchange (Tester Exchange swap circles, Testers Community app): $0. You test other developers' apps and they test yours. Cost is your time, about a minute a day per app. Speed depends on how many developers are active.
- Paid service (Tester Exchange, Testers Community paid plan): Tester Exchange charges $12.99 for 12 testers, $14.99 for 15 or $22.99 for 25. Testers Community lists its paid plan from $15. Testers start within hours to a day or two.
- Fiverr or Freelancer gig: gig pages we looked at list prices up to about $50 for 12 testers and two weeks of delivery. Quality varies by seller and is hard to verify.
- Reddit, Discord, Telegram and "test for test" posts: $0, but you chase every tester yourself and many drop out before day 14.
Free exchanges: how they work
In a free exchange every developer is also a tester. Testers Community describes a credit system where you test three apps to earn credits, then spend them to get testers for yours, and groups developers into packs that run together for about two weeks. Tester Exchange runs swap circles: when enough developers join, each member becomes a tester of every other member's app, and members also test a few apps from paying customers.
Free exchanges work best when you start early, because you earn testers by testing and the 14 days only start once all your testers are in. Expect to open each assigned app once a day.
On Tester Exchange the daily step is one tap per app in your phone's browser; no extra app is needed.
Paid services: what to check
Paying is allowed by Google's stated rule, but the test only helps if the testers are real people who stay opted in. Before you pay, check that testers use real phones, that spare testers replace dropouts, and that you get daily proof of use rather than only a promise.
Refund terms differ. Testers Community says it refunds if Google rejects the app after its cycle. Tester Exchange purchases are final: credits do not convert back to money, and unused credits stay on your balance.
Fiverr and other freelance gigs
Hundreds of sellers offer 12 or 20 testers for 14 days, usually with a Google Play questionnaire helper. Ratings and order counts help, but you usually cannot see whether testers opened your app each day. Ask the seller how many distinct real devices they use and whether you get daily proof.
Which one should you pick?
- No budget and at least three weeks before your launch date: join a free exchange today and keep testing other apps for all 14 days.
- Some budget and a deadline: pay for a service with daily proof and replacement of dropouts, and ask for 15 testers so a few dropouts don't reset your count.
- Already have friends and family on Android: invite them first, then fill the remaining seats from an exchange or a paid pack.
- Rejected before with "more testing required": fix the engagement problem first. See the guide on insufficient testing engagement.
How many testers should you ask for?
Google's minimum is 12, and every tester must stay opted in for 14 days in a row. Ask for 15 or more so a few dropouts don't leave you below 12 on day 10.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to get 12 testers for Google Play?
A free tester exchange costs nothing but your time: you test other developers' apps and they test yours. Paid options start around $13 for 12 testers.

It can be, if enough developers are active and you keep testing for all 14 days. Paying is faster and takes less of your time.
Are Fiverr testers safe to use?

How many testers should I get?
Ask for 15 or more. Twelve is the minimum, and dropouts below 12 can break the 14 days.
Does Tester Exchange offer refunds?
No. Purchases are final and credits do not convert back to money; unused credits stay on your balance.
